So who are they?
Gen A refers to anyone born between 2010 and 2024. They are often the younger siblings of Gen Z and have Millennial parents (Gen Y). And globally, there are over 2.8 million of this generation, one of the largest in the history of the world.
What characteristic defines them?
They are purported to be the most materially endowed generation ever. Who are the most diverse generation yet and will enjoy a longer lifespan than all generations that have come before them? Many are likely to see in the 22nd Century.
And what will they do with all this time? Well reports predict they will stay in education longer, and stay at home with parents longer (sorry, Millennial parents!)
They are predicted to have shorter attention spans. This could be due to the fact they are digital natives; the birth of Gen A was also the birth of the iPad. They are fully immersed in the world of tech, and it shapes all aspects of their lives, from education to communication and, of course, their consumption habits.
Their tech savviness also means they are the most globally connected generation to date.
How can you connect with them?
While most are still at school, they are your supporters of the future. Ensuring your brand can connect with them is key to growing your organisation.
Gen A are tech-driven consumers; they often discover new brands via YouTube. They will then want to dig deeper and use digital platforms to educate themselves more on a brand or product. They will naturally look at social media, influencers, along with their peers to help form their attitudes and consumption habits. So whilst they will often focus on the hype surrounding a brand or product online (if their peers or influencers love it, they will too). If your organisation is saying ‘we’re eco-friendly’, they will seek out the information that backs up your claim.
Last but not least, they are unlikely to have strong brand loyalty; they are likely to move on quickly when something catches their heart, so keeping their attention and interest will be a constant effort on behalf of brands. But the upside, if they love you, they can send that message far and wide in a matter of minute.
